Tirokafteri is a very typical meze ordered when visiting a Greek taverna. It is very easy to make and is very delicious! The word is a combination of the words tiri (cheese) and kafteros/I (spicy).
What you will need:
200 g feta
200 g Philadelphia or katiki domokou or other soft cheese (but not sweet one – so no mascarpone for example)
1 ½ red pepper washed and cut in half
A pinch of black pepper
1 teaspoon of oil
1 teaspoon of vinegar
A pinch of oregano
1 teaspoon of paprika
A pinch of chili or cayenne pepper (or more according to taste)
Optional: A pinch of garlic
Put the peppers on a pan in the oven. Grill both sides till the skin gets a bit black. Then take them out and leave them aside to get cold. Once cold, peel the skin off the peppers. Then put them in a blender. Pour in the blender the oil, the vinegar and the spices and make a fine paste of all of them. Add then the Philadelphia and last the feta and blend again till the paste becomes smooth.
Store in the fridge in a tapper and enjoy it as a dip with bread or anything else you would like.
